More Than 1,000 Hit Brewster Streets For Brew Run

BREWSTER – More than 1,000 runners representing 26 different states took part in the 46th running of the Brewster 5.2-mile Brew Run on Saturday morning.

Ben Szuhaj, a 27-year-old from Washington, D.C., captured the title after finishing in 28 minutes, 13.6 seconds, followed by John Messer, a 38-year-old from Hudson, who took second in 29:19.2. Chris Leonard, 20, of Mansfield, rounded out the top three in 30:33.7.

Molly FitzPatrick, a 21-year-old from Barrington, Ill., was the first female finisher. She finished ninth overall with a time of 32:12.2, outlasting the female runner-up, Nicky Johnson, a 24-year-old from Madison, N.J. who finished in 33:25.4. Abbie Tighe, 15, of Jamestown, R.I., was the third female finisher after crossing the finish line 33:59.9.

The race attracted runners ages 6 to 80, as runners and walkers conquered Brewster’s scenic roads before returning to The Woodshed for a post-run celebration.
