SPORTS REPORTER
The Cape Cod Chronicle, the Lower Cape’s only independent news outlet, is hiring a full-time sports and general assignment reporter to round out our editorial team. The best candidates will have a minimum of a bachelor’s degree in journalism or a related field, or equivalent experience; strong writing and photography skills; local housing and reliable transportation. Full-time salary and benefits are included, along with the chance to work in the vibrant newsroom of a strong, locally-owned newspaper. Job Description
Reports to: Editor
Status: Part-time to full-time
Terms: To be negotiated, commensurate with experience
Overview:
A part- or full-time position of sports and general assignment reporting for The Cape Cod Chronicle.
Requires:

Strong writing skills. Ability to produce clear, concise, engaging copy that requires minimal editing
-
Journalism experience. Knowledge of various hometown news topics and familiarity with reporting on local sports, education, features and other topics. Ability to work independently, identifying and pursuing leads on an ongoing basis.

Ability to meet deadlines.
-
A valid U.S. driver’s license and reliable transportation.

Photography skills, preferably with one’s own camera equipment and appropriate lenses.

Familiarity with web and social media management, flexibility to learn new skills, and an enthusiasm for working with the public and coworkers.

B.S. in journalism, mass communication or equivalent experience preferred.
Duties include:

Reporting, writing and photographing sports news, general news and feature stories as assigned, both during business hours and on evenings, weekends and some holidays.

Preparing stories for publication in print, on the web and via social media.

Working both in an office setting, from home and from the field.

Proofreading of stories and prepared pages.

Other duties as assigned.

The Cape Cod Chronicle is accepting applications for interns for the 2025 summer season. Positions are available in our editorial, production and sales/marketing teams. We pay a small stipend and offer real-world experience shadowing our professionals, with an opportunity for participants to grow their portfolios and hone their job skills. Hours are flexible.

For advertising interns: learning the basics of sales and marketing, shadowing advertising sales representatives as they develop leads, prepare accounts and support clients. Participating in marketing efforts.

For production interns: Shadowing production staff and learning all aspects of desktop publishing, including Adobe Creative Suite.

Working both in an office setting, from home and from the field.
