The Orleans Chamber of Commerce annual meeting was hosted at the Rock Harbor Grill last week. Attendees enjoyed the festive atmosphere, exceptional food and the service provided by owner Chuck Konner and his fabulous staff. Awards given out at the meeting included Large Business of the Year, Baskin’s Ace Hardware; Small Business of the Year, Beach Road Properties; Nonprofit of the Year, Orleans Improvement Association; Spirit of Orleans, Samantha Miskiv, Orleans DPW; and Entrepreneur of the Year, Clarke Doody, Trove Gallery. CBC’s Open House
--- The Chatham Boat Company on Crowell Road held a two-day fall open house last week. The well-attended event featured a beer garden, seal tours, raffles, snacks, specials in their retail shop, and a pumpkin patch. Pumpkins are still available for purchase with a portion of the proceeds going to the Cub Scouts Pack 76. Here’s the staff of the Boat Company at the event. --- Mary Parsons celebrates her retirement from managing the Unitarian Universalist Meeting House of Chatham Thrift Shop after four years. Under Mary’s leadership, the seasonal all-volunteer shop thrived. Mary and her team were celebrating another successful year when the shop had to shut down unexpectedly for the season after a recent storm flooded the Meeting House basement. Mary’s assistant manager, Pam Ebeling, will take her place next year, and Mary plans to continue participating. The UU Meeting House of Chatham Thrift Shop, also known as the "Bearly Used Thrift Shop" because of its bear mascot, helps to support recycling efforts, offers quality items at bargain prices, sponsors programs at the UU Meeting House, and develops community spirit. Pretty Picky/Monomoy Real Estate, CCBL Hit it Out Of The Park
--- Pretty Picky Properties and Monomoy Real Estate and Construction teamed up with the Cape Cod Baseball teams to help feed Cape Cod’s hungry and scored 18,400 meals for the Family Pantry of Cape Cod. This summer five Cape Cod Baseball League teams participated in the Home Runs Against Hunger program. This innovative program generates a $50 donation to the Family Pantry of Cape Cod from the two companies for each home team home run hit by the teams involved, including the regular season and playoff games. Ninety-two home runs were hit at home games by the Hyannis Harbor Hawks, Brewster Whitecaps, Harwich Mariners, Chatham Anglers, and Orleans Firebirds, and $4,600 was donated. The Firebirds won the bragging rights with 26 homers.
