CHATHAM – Changes are coming to the Chatham Harbor Run in the race’s 44th edition.
The 6.2-mile/10-kilometer race on Sunday, June 22 put on by the Cape Cod Athletic Club will have a different start time and will also feature a new team relay event.
Runners and spectators will have to wake a little earlier this year, as the race’s start time has moved up to 8 a.m. The time change was made in consideration of runner safety, according to race director Howard Tansey.
He said race organizers and local police and fire departments agreed the new time made more sense with roads less busy — and there’s less heat in the early morning than the middle of the day. Also, the time change to 8 a.m. might boost participation as runners, by starting earlier, would still have the rest of their days after finishing the race.
Similarly new to the Chatham Harbor Run in 2025 is a 2x5-kilometer relay race. The inspiration for adding a team relay version of the race was the idea that runners like to do 5Ks, but organizers didn’t want to create another course in addition to the 10K route, according to Tansey.
“Figuring you could grab your wife/husband, father and son/daughter, mother and daughter/son or just grab your bestie for a little fun on the Harbor Run course,” Tansey said. “It’s all about fun.”
Due to traffic concerns, the only way to get to and from the relay transition will be by bus.
The race raises money for Monomoy Dollars for Scholars and the Cape Cod Athletic Club scholarship fund. The course begins and ends near Monomoy Regional Middle School.
