CHATHAM – The cold, wet and windy conditions weren’t enough to keep the crowd away.
A record 2,600 people registered to run in this year’s Chatham Turkey Trot, marking a sold-out turnout for the 20th edition of the 5-kilometer race.
Rob Mirabello, a 21-year-old from Washington, D.C., led the pack with a first-place time of 15:52, followed by Harwich resident Luc Santos, 20, who crossed the finish line just eight seconds later to claim second place.
Michael Wade, a 21-year-old from Woodstock, Md., finished third in 16:07, while Rhode Island residents Andrew Mottur (16:18) and Sean Gray (16:19) finished fourth and fifth, respectively.
Alexis Liolios, a 26-year-old from Buzzards Bay, was the first female finisher after crossing the finish line in 16:39. She outlasted fellow Buzzards Bay resident Zoe Platanitis, 44, by one second to claim the female title.
Waban resident Caroline Barry (18:01) finished third among female participants, while Osterville resident Jenise Madden (18:44) and Longmeadow resident Sandra Doran (18:47) rounded out the top five for females.
Jack Dovaras, 21, was the first Chatham resident to finish after completing the 3.1-mile course in 16:34 to earn a sixth-place finish.
The race saw widespread community support from 33 businesses that sponsored the event, which raised more than $100,000 to benefit Lower Cape Outreach Council food pantries and financial assistance programs.
