Santa Stampede Brings Holiday Cheer To Orleans Streets

by Brad Joyal

ORLEANS – More than 300 runners ranging from age 6 to 85 took part in the Santa Stampede 5K on Saturday in Orleans.
The annual holiday classic featured a wide range of costumes; most runners were decked out in Christmas colors, while some paid tribute to Santa Claus.
Matt Ward, a 29-year-old Wareham resident, cruised to a first-place finish after completing the 5-kilometer course in 17:38.3 — almost three and a half minutes faster than 31-year-old Orleans resident Evan Koncewicz (20:54.7) and his twin brother Kelan (20:57.1), who finished second and third, respectively.
Connor McLeod, 24, of Brewster, finished fourth in 21:02.3, while 18-year-old Wellfleet resident Maya Braga de Lima (21:38.3) rounded out the top five individual finishes while claiming the top female spot. Caitlin Cullen, 23, of Eastham, took second among female finishers after finishing in 24:21.6, and Lindsay Macdonald, a 22-year-old from Yarmouth, was the third female finisher after crossing the finish in 24:29.2.
