William Burkhart Richardson
William Burkhart Richardson, lovingly known as Bill, passed away peacefully in his sleep in his final years at age 88 on December 12th. He was surrounded by the unwavering care of his devoted wife, Diane, who fulfilled his wish to remain at home by her side. Her dedication and selfless care is a true testament to the power of love and the vows they took a day short of 49 years ago.
Bill’s life was a vivid tapestry of adventures, both abroad and within the United States. In his early years, he was a beekeeper, tending to his buzzing companions and ensuring their well-being. He also worked as a miner of mica, meticulously extracting and caring for this delicate mineral. These experiences shaped his character and instilled in him a deep appreciation for nature and its wonders.
In later years in Boston and New York Bill’s artistic talents found new avenues of expression. His skilled hands meticulously crafted frames for paintings, photographs, and artworks of all kinds. His attention to detail and craftsmanship earned him recognition among local artists and galleries.
Bill’s frame making skills were highly sought after, and he had the privilege of working with renowned institutions. His frames became part of the presentation of countless masterpieces, enhancing and complementing the beauty of the artworks they encased.
During his time in Boston, Bill also had the opportunity to work at the Louvre in Paris, France. He was invited to assist with framing and preserving some of the world’s most famous paintings. It was a transformative experience for him, immersing himself in the rich history and artistry of the Louvre. The knowledge and techniques he acquired during his time there influenced his frame making style for years to come.
Bill’s next chapter of life started on the Cape in the humble backyard greenhouse where he and Diane created a binding connection to growing. From a small mail-order business of Tropicals to the well-respected garden center, the Farm, Bill’s passion for growing was his trademark gift. Forever remembered for the quality growing, his dedication to the industry was well respected. From several hand built greenhouse to now, the lasting memories Bill left with countless customers is remarkable. Laced with a feverish strong personality, his customers usually left with great plant knowledge and a lesson in colorful language.
Known for his candid nature, he was a force to be reckoned with. In his leisure time, he found solace casting his fishing line into the bay in his little white boat. The melodies of Rod Stewart, Michael Jackson, Billy Joel and Stevie Nicks played on his trusty Sony Walkman provided the soundtrack to these moments.
Bill loved his family. He was a fierce father to his three children, Sassy (Terence), Mica (CJ), and Sean (Emily), and took immense pride in their accomplishments. Bill’s dream for his children’s happiness was complete as each has found a partner in love and life, a home, and children. His legacy will live on through his grandchildren, Violet, Maeve, Jonah, Bodhi, and Harper, whose spirited personalities will do him proud. He leaves his wife, Diane to continue to shine through the most turbulent seas, the beacon of hope for so many and Bill’s most trusted companion.
The world has lost a remarkable individual, Bill’s memory will forever be cherished by his loved ones and the countless gardens he had influenced. May his soul rest, his work here is done but certainly not forgotten, we will continue to make you proud Daddy.
