BREWSTER – Looking for a reprieve from the heat? The Cape Cod Covenant Church will be hosting indoor summer concerts all summer long.
Every Sunday through Aug. 17, a new band, choir or individual will perform for listeners gathered in the air-conditioned church.
Last Sunday, June 29, kicked off the series with a performance by the Outer Cape Chorale, an a cappella chorus made up of men and women of all ranges. Their mission is to provide free concerts, big and small, across the Cape. A packed house enjoyed their latest series, “Power of Kindness,” which features songs and short anecdotes about how kindness presents itself in unexpected ways.
Mary Avella, the director of music ministries for Cape Cod Covenant, has developed the program over the last few years. Each summer, she puts together a series of local performers to provide free entertainment to locals and visitors. The series is open to the public and does not require attendees to be members of the congregation.
The series will continue with Front Street Jazz on July 6 at 5 p.m. The Front Street Jazz ensemble is a six-piece Cape Cod band playing jazz, pop and bossa nova. They were recently seen at Chatham’s First Night.
On July 13, catch Thom Dutton, a local harpist who has performed across the Lower Cape and beyond.
Watch Your Step, an Outer Cape band made up of local Cape Cod kids ranging in age from 9 to 16, will bring their talents to the Cape Cod Covenant Church on Sunday, July 20.
The final four Sundays will include Drumma Queens, the All Worn Out Jug Band, Jade and Sting-A-Ma-Jigs and Sue Keller.
The music stylings range in genre, so organizers say there will be a concert for everyone. Concerts start promptly at 5 p.m.
