Local Field Hockey, Volleyball Teams Await Playoff Seedings; Other Sports Finish Regular Seasons
Field hockey and volleyball state tournament brackets would not be released until Wednesday, after The Chronicle’s deadline, the MIAA announced. The brackets were originally scheduled to be released Tuesday but were held due to a court injunction submitted by the Hampden-Wilbraham Regional School district and individual student plaintiffs.
The order, according to the MIAA’s release, will have ramifications on the statewide seeding process, forcing the delay of the brackets until after the MIAA is heard in court.
Although they were still waiting for their postseason seedings at time of The Chronicle’s deadline on Tuesday, the Lower Cape’s field hockey and volleyball teams have already finished their regular seasons and have an idea of where they should fall in their respective brackets.
The Cape Cod Tech girls volleyball team finished with a 17-4 record and was ranked No. 12 in the latest MIAA Division 5 Power Rankings released Oct. 25. Monomoy’s field hockey squad posted a 16-0-2 regular-season record, and was ranked second in the Division 4 Power Rankings released Oct. 25. In Division 3, Nauset field hockey (7-8-3) was ranked No. 27 in the Oct. 25 rankings.
In boys soccer, Nauset (8-6-3) is ranked No. 32 in the Division 3 Power Rankings released Tuesday morning, Monomoy (12-4-2) is ranked No. 18 in Division 4, and Cape Cod Tech (13-2-1) is ranked No. 29 in Division 5.
The Nauset girls (12-3-2) were ranked No. 30 in Tuesday’s Power Rankings, and Monomoy (9-8-1) was ranked No. 26 in Division 4.
Soccer brackets are expected to be released Friday, with postseason games scheduled to begin Sunday. Field hockey and volleyball postseason games are expected to begin Thursday.
