1932–2024
Randall Boyd Fairbanks, 92 of Chatham Massachusetts, passed away on June 17, 2024.
He was born in Boston in 1932 to Ernest and Verna Fairbanks. Randy attended Roosevelt High School before joining the Air Force, then college at the University of Massachusetts, where he graduated with a degree in Fisheries and Wildlife Management. He retired from the Massachusetts Marine Fisheries as the Assistant Director in 1992.
He married his wife Marthabelle (Marty) Chase in November 1959, together they raised their family in Pembroke. They lived on High Street for 37 years before moving to Marty’s family home in Chatham in 2000. He spent his summers commercial fishing on his boat the “Xpediter’’ fishing for Striped Bass. His commercial Striped Bass fishing career lasted well into his 80’s. Throughout that time he enjoyed bringing friends and family out to “fill the boat with stripers” using nothing but his homemade Bucktail Jigs. He was truly a wealth of knowledge on many topics but in particular on the topic of Striped Bass.
Randy was preceded in death by his wife Marty Fairbanks, they were married for 63 years. He is survived by his son Gregory Fairbanks, his wife Marie, his daughter Deborah Weinman, her husband Brad, four grandchildren, Bailey Long and her husband Adam, Tucker Fairbanks, Alexandra and Jake Weinman. Two great grandchildren Taylor and Mac Long. He also leaves behind his two sisters Joan Wilde of Oscoda, Michigan and Nancy Neiforth of Grafton, Wisconsin.
Randy was an outdoors adventurer, he loved hunting, fishing and snowmobiling. Randy will always be remembered for his ability to vividly and humorously tell stories about his life’s experiences, his family, friends and his pets. He had a strong and determined personality that captured a room when he entered. We couldn’t have asked for a better parent and grandparent; we will miss Randy every day.
