Mary Ellen Strode

August 29, 2024

It is with profound sadness that we share the unexpected passing of Mary Ellen “Meg/Meggy” Strode on the evening of August 21st, 2024. Meg was born January 21st, 1962, in Weymouth, MA at South Shore Hospital to Herlin C. Geyer and Esther Geyer. Meg lived on Norfolk Road in Braintree, MA until she moved to Cape Cod in 1986.
Meeting her future husband, Lindsay Strode, while working at Ski Market Braintree, she knew from the start that God had brought them together. Marrying in 1985 after a whirlwind romance, she moved to Harwich, MA establishing deep roots and never looked back. In 1987 Meg was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma; while this news was devastating to both Meg and Lindsay, they were both eternally grateful that it was through this dark and challenging time that Lindsay came to share Meg’s faith in Jesus Christ – it was this mutual bond of faith which guided them throughout their lives together right up until Meg’s final breaths. Meg felt led to homeschool her three children through high school, giving each child a foundation of faith on which each would live out to this day.
Active in church life, at Cape Cod Bible Alliance Church for 27 years, Meg faithfully engaged in outreach to J-1 students through Hello Summer, and actively participated for decades in moms and women’s groups compassionately mentoring many in their respective faith walks. Meg was also an involved team member on several church missions trips, with her family, to the eastern reaches of the Dominican Republic. Meg’s heart was fully committed to Samaritan’s Purse Operation Christmas Child ministries for over 20 years, which gave her great joy.
While cancer played a role in her life three times, each trial only served to deepen her faith, drawing her closer to her real identity as a child of God. Meg’s heart’s desires were fulfilled as a faithful wife of 39 years to her husband Lindsay Strode, a loving mom to her three children, Juliana Sass, Christian Strode, and Kailey Grant, and Nana to her four precious grandchildren, Ada, Blake, Luka, and Kane. Meg was happily engaged in anything math related, weather, Red Sox, gardening, and helping build Cape Organics from the ground up with her husband and chasing sunsets and rainbows around the Cape. We would also like to thank Meg’s care team, Jen, Marianne, and Karen at Dana Farber Weymouth for their unwavering support, care, and compassion.
A celebration of life well lived will be held on Friday, August 30th, 2024 at Cape Cod Bible Alliance Church, 3600 Main Street Brewster, MA. Service time will be held from 10:00am with fellowship, remembrances, and light refreshments to follow. All are welcome.
Those feeling led to donate in Meg’s memory can do so to the Cape Cod Bible Alliance Churches El Dorado Missions fund, or Samaritan’s Purse at samaritanspurse.org.
