Allan George Brooks

Allan George Brooks, 73, of Chatham, MA died February 13, 2024 at home surrounded by family after a brief illness.

He was the loving husband of the late Linda (Seiders) Brooks. Born in Waltham on September 1st, 1950 he was the son of the late George W. Brooks and Rose Brooks.

Mr. Brooks lived an adventurous and daring life. He rarely hesitated to make his own path even in the face of convention or daunting odds against success. His can-do spirit and out-of-the -box thinking made anything possible. He carried his charismatic charm throughout life, as a young man wearing a cape and driving an old hearse as one of his first cars, he began a life-long pursuit of adventure. An incomplete list of notable experiences of his include attending Woodstock, becoming a pilot and airplane mechanic, narrowly escaping imprisonment or death numerous times in the Caribbean, Central, and South America in aircraft he customized. He was once employed by a magazine to photograph Jimi Hendrix on stage. On top of this he was a jeweler, lapidary, glass artist, private investigator, trolley, limo, and bus driver, tack and saddlery shop owner, and an upholstery repairman.

In retirement he became the beloved landlord of the “Hippie Compound” in Chatham. He had a great love of the arts and created many beautiful and uniquely styled pieces of jewelry and glasswork. During this same time in his 40s he also developed a passion for singing, which became his primary focus the later part of his life. His distinct bass-baritone voice has performed Cole Porter to Giuseppe Verdi at musical events all over the Cape for many years. An avid supporter and participant of the Chatham Music Club and the musical program at Saint Christopher’s Church- music was a central part of who he was.

Many people, from all walks of life, called him dear friend - wild career outlaws, Ivy league scientists, accomplished businessmen, artists and bohemians of every stripe, people on the fringe of society and in the mainstream. He was larger than life and made a lasting impression on all who met him. He loved regaling his tales of adventure to his friends and could be seen regularly mornings downtown with his coffee buddies.

Most importantly he was a devoted, loving, and supportive father to two immensely grateful sons. Both count themselves very lucky to have inherited even a fraction of the great gusto for life their father possessed. He will be greatly missed and should be remembered by his signature quote- that he had printed on clothing he gifted to loved ones which so well distilled his approach to life: “Fun for All and All for Fun!”

He is survived by his siblings Jeff and Jane, and his sons Nicholas Allan Brooks and Allan Eric Brooks.

Family, friends, and fans (of which there are many!) are cordially invited to a celebration of life event on May 18th, 2024 11 AM – 4 PM at Ocean Edge Resort & Golf Club in Brewster, MA.
