Luddy Joins Herman As State Rep. Candidate

HARWICH – Hadley Luddy, chief executive officer of the Homeless Prevention Council in Orleans, has announced her candidacy for the Fourth Barnstable District State Representative seat being vacated in December by State Rep. Sarah Peake, D-Provincetown. Luddy joins Orleans Select Board Chair Michael Herman, who has also announced his intention to run.

Both candidates were actively collecting signatures for nomination papers during the 24th annual JFK Presidents Day gathering held by the Democratic Town Committee here on Monday at the South Harwich Meetinghouse. Both candidates were provided an opportunity to present a brief statement on their candidacy during the annual awards ceremony put on by the Democratic Town Committee.

Luddy, an Orleans resident, has owned her home there since 2001, and has been with the Homeless Prevention Council for the past eight years. She cited her experience in working with the community and “having boots on the ground.”

She said collaborative community building is an essential skill for a state representative in the Fourth District. Luddy said housing, environment, infrastructure and regional opportunities would be some of her priorities as a state representative.

Herman said he loves helping people and that is one of the biggest impacts he can have. He spoke of his “proven record” as a member of the select board and affordable housing trust. He cited a long family history in Orleans, and said he is looking forward to using his skills and experience to provide practical, responsible, sustainable solutions to issues.

Both candidates are Democrats.
