Many of us know Stefanie Murray from personal experience.  Murray is the director of admissions and marketing at Broad Reach’s Liberty Common. If you or a family member needed a “bridge” to coming home from an injury or surgery at the hospital, Liberty Commons is where you can rehab for that transition home.
I started our interview by just thanking her for all her help with my family members over the years.
“You’re welcome. I feel fulfilled with the overall good in that we are able to get people the help they need when they need it,” she said.  “There are so many hoops to jump through; paperwork from doctors, medical insurance and more. I’m happy to help with all this, so people don’t get overwhelmed.”
“It’s an emotional time for the entire family. I will never say ‘I’m sorry, I can’t help.’  There are many resources out there.  I will find a solution; I will look for it.  I talk to others, and explore all the options.”  Murray said she sees people every day who need to find a place for a loved one.
She also says that part of her job is to keep morale up, and to remember “why we are here; to help people who need help.”  Before taking over her present job, Murray was the director of the Victorian Assisted Living facility across the street for over four years; the Victorian is another facet of Broad Reach.  “I still go over and say hello to the residents there,” she said with a smile.
Along with the superb rehab services Liberty Commons also offers long term care. Often there’s an adjustment for both the husband and the wife in these instances. Murray has wanted to put together a support group for these spouses.  She told me there are a total of 132 beds in Liberty Commons, this includes both rehab and long term care.
“The need is great,” said Murray. “I see people every day crying because they want their loved one closer to home here in Chatham. I keep tissues in my office.”
As if Murray isn’t busy enough she also sings in her church choir and sings at weddings and funerals too.
“I’m also a notary!  That’s come in very handy here.”
Stefanie Murray is just one of the many fine people who work at Liberty Commons.  Chatham is so fortunate to have a facility like this.
