Overdue Dragger Found Sunk Off Brewster; Two Found Aboard

BREWSTER – The U.S. Coast Guard confirmed Wednesday afternoon that a vessel found submerged in Cape Cod Bay off Brewster is the fishing vessel Seahorse, which was last seen Sunday.
Officials confirmed that the remains of two people were found aboard the wreck, but in deference to their families, they did not identify the victims. The captain of the vessel is believed to be Shawn Arsenault.
Shortly after 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, a sportfisherman spotted the submerged vessel about two miles north northeast of Saint’s Landing. The boat was in about 25 feet of water, and was spotted at low tide.
"A recreational fisherman discovered the 30-foot white-hulled vessel while trolling near the search area," a Coast Guard news release reads. "Coast Guard Cutter William Sparling arrived on scene within 30 minutes. Divers from the Massachusetts Environmental Police and Massachusetts State Police identified the vessel. Both individuals were found onboard, and next of kin were notified."
The search began Tuesday morning after the Orleans harbormaster reported the Seahorse overdue to the Coast Guard in Woods Hole. The vessel was known to fish in the area near Billingsgate Shoals, and usually returned to Rock Harbor the same day. The harbormaster became concerned after seeing the owner’s truck at the marina two days later.
The Coast Guard issued an urgent marine information broadcast Tuesday morning to notify the public of the emergency and launched Stations Chatham, Cape Cod Canal and Provincetown to search the fishing area within Cape Cod Bay. Search efforts also targeted the location of the last known cell phone ping from the owner’s phone, approximately two miles offshore from Chatham.
The Brewster Police and Massachusetts Environmental Police referred all inquiries to the Cape and Islands District Attorney’s Office, which indicated it will make no immediate statement because the matter is under active investigation.
This is a developing story. It has been updated to include new information.
