ORLEANS – Three candidates have emerged as finalists to be the next superintendent of the Nauset Public Schools.
In a statement Jan. 14, the district announced that Dr. Glenn Brand, Dr. James “Kimo” Carter and Dr. Shawn Parkhurst have been recommended for consideration to the Nauset Regional School Committee. A committee organized to conduct the search began looking at applicants in December and conducted interviews earlier this month.
The finalists are vying to succeed Superintendent Brooke Clenchy, who announced in the fall that she is retiring in June. Clenchy first assumed the post on an interim basis in April 2021 before being hired full time in January 2022.
Bland is the current superintendent of the Wilmington Public Schools, a position he has held since 2018. He served as superintendent of the Acton-Boxborough Regional School District from 2014 to 2017 and as assistant superintendent for administration and finance for the Sharon public schools from 2011 to 2014.
Bland’s resume also includes experience as a school teacher and administrator, including two years as assistant principal at Mattacheese Middle School in West Yarmouth from 2002 to 2004.
Carter has been the assistant superintendent for teaching and learning in Weston since 2018. He previously served as principal of Watertown Middle School from 2005 to 2018. He has also worked as a program aide and social studies teacher in Watertown and Billerica, as a “principal intern” in Dorchester, and as an assistant middle school principal in Townshend.
Parkhurst was hired in 2019 as the superintendent of the Windsor Locks Public Schools in Connecticut. He also served as assistant superintendent of the Cheshire Public Schools from 2017 to 2019 and as superintendent for curriculum and instruction with the Wallingford Public Schools from 2013 to 2017. He served as principal at five schools from 2001 to 2013.
The finalists will be invited to spend the day in the Nauset district on Jan. 22 and 23, where they will visit the district’s schools and staff. There also will be a virtual community forum held in which residents can meet the finalists, the district said in the statement.
