Ed was born to Catherine (Bryden) Mahoney and George Mahoney in Waltham MA on March 24, 1928. He grew up with modest means alongside his sister Georgina. He never forgot his roots and valued his Scottish and Irish heritage as well as his Nova Scotia roots. Ed met Barbara in 5th grade and they were friends through school years. He was like a big brother to her siblings. He graduated from St. Charles High School in 1944.
