Outer Cape Chorale Performs ‘Glorious!’ Concert

by Jennifer Sexton-Riley

The Outer Cape Chorale will perform the group’s annual December concert, “Glorious!” including the world premiere of a brand new commissioned work, in two venues and at three different times in the beginning of December.

“Glorious!” will be performed at the Provincetown Town Hall on Friday, Dec. 8 at 7 p.m. and on Saturday, Dec. 9 at 5 p.m. It will also be performed at the Nauset Regional Middle School in Orleans on Sunday, Dec. 10 at 3 p.m. The concert will feature 120 singers, a brass ensemble, John Rutter’s “Gloria” and the commissioned world premiere of “Reindeer Cantata” by Robert Grady.

Outer Cape Chorale Artistic Director Allison Beavan said “Reindeer Cantata” is a delightful composition which had chorus members in stitches the first time they heard it.

“It was created by Robert Grady, a professional opera tenor who sings with us,” Beavan said. “It's just hysterically funny. I can’t give a lot away, because I want our audiences to enjoy it in the moment, but I’ll just say Robert has taken some very familiar classical pieces that he’s arranged into a very funny composition. The first time we read through it, the singers were laughing so much they could barely get through it!”

All three concerts will include the same repertoire and performers. Beavan pointed out that all three of the concerts are free, and no tickets are required to attend. However, since the Chorale relies on donations, donations will be gratefully accepted.

“The town hall concerts are perfect for anyone who would like to go to dinner either before or after the performance,” Beavan said. “And the Nauset Middle School concert is perfect for anyone who would rather attend in the afternoon. We’re very excited to have all 120 voices together for this happy, exuberant concert. It’s going to be amazing!”
