Firefighter Trainees Drill In Chatham

Safer and more practical than drilling with live fire is the use of a theatrical fogger to simulate smoke. The machine readily filled up the small South Chatham fire station, giving students a chance to experience zero visibility without danger of inhaling smoke or being burned.
The firefighter training program at Cape Tech is now in its third year; it allows students studying various trades to try firefighting skills. Many local firefighters also work in the trades when they are not on duty.

SOUTH CHATHAM – Motorists driving by the tiny South Chatham fire station last week could be forgiven for thinking the building was going up in smoke.
It wasn’t, but it was filled with harmless theatrical fog during a drill involving firefighter trainees from Cape Cod Tech.
The program, a partnership between the school and the Barnstable County Fire Chiefs’ Association, has been highly successful.
