ORLEANS – It’s hard to stop cross country runners when they’re in a good rhythm. But a group of Nauset Regional Middle School students hit pause on their after-school run last month to help someone in need.
Elle Stanley, Bowdy Beaulieu, Ollie Camp, Brogan Kew, Greyson Greemore and Maisie Callahan were in the midst of cross country practice last month when they noticed an elderly woman who had fallen. According to the middle school’s principal, Peter Cohen, the woman appeared to be hurt and confused.
“Instead of just running on by, the students stopped, assisted, and made sure the woman was OK,” Cohen said in an email. “These actions are exactly what we are looking to see from our students.”
Cohen said he received a voicemail the following day from someone reporting the students’ good deed.
“I am proud to be your principal and so impressed with the actions you took,” Cohen said in his email to the students. “It displayed your kindness, your citizenship, and empathy for those in need.”
