This Veterans Day weekend, experience an evening of music and reflection as Gloriæ Dei Cantores presents a concert to honor the sacrifices of veterans. The Veterans Concert: Dona Nobis Pacem will be held Nov. 8 and 9 at 7:30 p.m. at the Church of the Transfiguration.
“I'm grateful we can offer this concert to commemorate and thank our veterans, who need our support and care,” said Kirsti Pfeiffer, a member of both the Church of the Transfiguration and its resident choir, Gloriæ Dei Cantores. “In this time of division and chaos in our nation, there couldn't be a more important time to come together, and offer our gratitude for, and reflect on the many sacrifices of our Veterans to preserve the freedoms we enjoy today.”
The program includes works by composer Ēriks Ešenvalds, such as “The Heavenly Flock” and “The Earthly Rose.” Additionally, two pieces by British composers will highlight the concert’s theme of peace in the wake of war: “Lo, the Full Final Sacrifice” by Gerald Finzi and “Dona Nobis Pacem” by Ralph Vaughan Williams.
“One of the big outreaches of the Church of the Transfiguration is the Arts,” Pfeiffer said. “We have a strong belief in the power of art and music to build bridges and change lives. The choir has traveled to 23 countries around the world and recorded over 50 albums that are distributed internationally. Here on Cape, this concert is one of our biggest events of the year with a full choir and orchestra. Some players have come from Chicago to join us.”
The group offers many performances throughout the year, both at the Church of the Transfiguration and at Arts Empowering Life's Performing Arts Center in Brewster, as well as a summer performing arts camps for kids, the new Outer Cape Winds Community wind ensemble for all ages and abilities, Artist workshops and masterclasses, an educational Arts Speak Arts and Entertainment Lecture series, and an annual Carol Sing which will be free for all on Dec. 23.
