Donald V. Kiernan

WENHAM – Mr. Donald V. Kiernan, age 98, passed peacefully on October 15, 2024 at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers. He was surrounded by his loving family including his beloved daughters, Florence Kiernan and her partner Peter Barnard, Rosemarie Bottomley and her husband Kevin Bottomley, his grandchildren, Amy Bottomley Cavilla and her husband Robert Cavilla, Taylor Bottomley and his wife Emily Bottomley, and his great grandchildren, John Cavilla, Weston Cavilla, Townsend Bottomley, and Camilla Bottomley. Donald also had many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his loving wife of 56 years, Rosemarie Ryan Kiernan, by his son Donald Kiernan and by his brothers Leonard, Russell and Arthur.
Donald was born in Salem and resided on the North Shore his entire life, with the exception of his service in the U.S. Navy.
Donald, alongside his brother, Russell, had a long and very successful career as a dealer in marine art. Based in Salem, the Marine Arts Gallery specialized in paintings by 19th century artists. The gallery developed an international client base and was a participant in major antique shows across the United States for many years including the prestigious Winter Show in New York City.
In addition to his passion for art, Donald was an avid gardener and collector. He also loved to travel and enjoyed many family vacations to Sea Island, GA and Europe. He was a member of Corinthian Yacht Club and Salem Country Club.
Donald was the consummate gentleman. He had an innate ability to engage with everyone he encountered and was eternally optimistic. Donald loved generously and cherished his wife, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was happiest celebrating holidays and family gatherings in Hamilton and on Cape Cod.
The family would like to extend our deepest gratitude to all those that took care of Donald at the Kaplan Family Hospice House, including Justin, Patty, Jacky, Cindy, Ivan, Jill, Jean, Sherry and many more.
Relatives and friends are invited to celebrate Donald’s life at his Funeral Mass which will be held at St. Paul’s Catholic Church, 50 Union St., South Hamilton on Thursday, November 14th at 10:30 A.M. Assisting the family with the arrangements is O’Donnell Cremations - Funerals - Celebrations, 167 Maple St., (Rte 62) Danvers.
