HARWICH – It can be challenging to begin a new era under a first-year coach, but the Cape Cod Tech volleyball team hasn’t skipped a beat since Jasmine Goncalo took over on the sidelines.
Goncalo and the Crusaders improved to 7-0 on Monday with a 3-0 sweep of Bristol Aggie. While the coach has helped bring the team together, seniors Milowa Frias and Sarah Feliz de Jesus, both West Yarmouth residents, have helped lead the perfect start.
“We had eight graduating seniors last year, so we all had to work together,” said Frias. “I think over time, we’ve grown our chemistry as a team and we’ve all grown to know each other. Having a new coach as well has helped us even more.”
Added Feliz de Jesus, “We all have good chemistry, so it’s been really fun. We all trust each other and know what the other person’s going to do most of the time. Right off the bat, it was really good chemistry.”
As the victories pile up, so too does the team’s confidence. After reaching the second round of the Division 5 state tournament a year ago, the players are confident that they have the pieces for a return to the postseason.
“It’s super exciting because we had a lot of seniors graduate and we didn’t know how the season was going to go,” Feliz de Jesus said. “I’m really excited about the season we’re having and I’m really confident that we’re going to make the playoffs and do really well.”
