Athlete Of The Week: Lincoln Sanford

PLEASANT LAKE – Monomoy spread the wealth around at the plate as a number of players contributed to the scoring Thursday against Cape Cod Tech.
Behind the abundant run support, sophomore Lincoln Sanford threw four shutout innings to round out the 17-0 win.
Sanford, a Barnstable resident, also helped himself with a sacrifice fly to extend the Monomoy lead in the top of the fourth.
Head coach Louis Elia said Sanford is “going to be good” and that he was looking forward to having him for a couple more years.
“He’s going to be a force to be reckoned with on the mound, because he can throw pretty hard as a sophomore, and I think if he keeps with it, and he learns a little bit more, as long as he’s learning, he’ll get better and better,” Elia said.
Sanford struck out four in the shutout start, during which he threw mostly fastballs, he said.
His strategy is straightforward: throw strikes.
“Throw strikes a lot,” Sanford said. “I mean, dominate the strike zone, you dominate the hitter. If you’re in it a lot, then you can throw something out of it to get a swing and miss.”
Sanford also said he had a nine-strikeout goal going into the start and thought that he could mix in more sliders to get to that mark.
“It’s really just strikes, control the strike zone and then control the hitter,” he said.
A healthy Barnstable County requires great community news.
