People come from all over to shop on Chatham's Main Street, and now you can shop on Chatham’s Old Main Street!
Until now, Old Main was known for the stupendous Sylvan Gardens, but now you can visit the gardens and this unique little pop-up shop, This ‘n’ That in Chatham.
“The Ivy Cottage shop inspired me,” owner Debi Long said. “That shop was filled with so many lovely things. I thought to myself I find treasures like that all the time! So why not see what other people think about them.” She does have a knack for discovering unique, hidden treasures.
Plus she weaves, and her husband Leon is a wood craftsman and makes beautiful furniture. Long creates dish towels, placemats, potholders, pillows and more with her cute little loom right there in the shop. And her husband not only creates the pieces on display for sale, he does custom orders, too.
Long has had a delightful summer with her new venture. “People have been so supportive! Saying ‘how cute!’ and ‘so darling!’ I just love it.” She also loves it when customers do a double take when they see her. “‘Do I know you?’ they say,” she chuckles. Long worked at Hudson Eldridge Insurance for over 20 years.
“I love when folks stop and chat. For a small little shop there’s a lot to look at.” There’s a wealth of dishware, home décor, flower arrangements, antiques, and more. You literally do not know what you’ll find here next, from the practical to the impulsive.
“I've always got a project of some kind going, too.”
“Look at this English breakfast set with a Guide for Butlers and Other Household Staff — totally whimsical! Right?” What a find! There are gift ideas, special home décor items and just trinkets that make you feel good. It’s a fun little shop.
“And I also want to mention that Leon did a custom writer’s desk for a well-known author’s summer home,” Long said. “And as it happened I scored an amazing Windsor chair at the right time to complete her writing station! You just never know what might come into the shop or who!”
Maybe you should stop in today!
