HARWICH – Saturday was a great day to honor fire and rescue personnel at Hinckley Home Center.

The event was put on by the Harwich Chamber of Commerce and Hinckley Home Center at its East Harwich location. The two organizations began the appreciation day events last September, recognizing the contribution of local police departments. On Saturday people in the community came together to celebrate Fire and Rescue Appreciation Day.

The event was primarily focused on the Harwich Fire Department, with additional representation from Brewster, the U.S. Coast Guard and the state Department of Conservation and Recreation’s forest fire control units.

The event drew a steady stream of participants, with kids getting a hands-on day on fire apparatus, including Harwich’s 1928 fire truck, Coast Guard equipment, forest fire control vehicles, presentations from the Animal Rescue League of Boston’s Brewster office, music by North Country, and food from Red River Barbeque.

“It was a great day to say thank you to fire and rescue personnel for all they do to keep us safe,” said Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Cyndi Williams.
