Moving Day

Each spring, the town’s shellfish department transfers thousands of oysters from their winter grounds just off Oyster Pond Beach to growing areas farther up Oyster River. The annual move took place Monday, with members of Barnstable County AmeriCorps helping out department staff and volunteers in the labor-intensive task. Grow-out cages taken from the water were emptied and the oysters transferred to empty cages where they would have more space to grow. TIM WOOD PHOTOS
