Costume Caper Road Racers Charge Into The New Year

January 02, 2026

Dozens of folks welcomed the new year by dressing up in silly garb and running in the annual First Night Costume Caper Road Race. The cold didn’t seem to deter participants who ran from the Chatham Squire, which sponsors the annual contest, to the Chatham Lighthouse and back. Nat Markey was the first to cross the finish line, followed by a succession of Santas, lighthouses, Minions, superheroes and many others, all of whom enjoyed a nice warm beef stew at the Squire afterwards.
