Art Returns To Kate Gould Park

June 26, 2025

Kate Gould Park is once again crowded with whales and sharks — or at least colorful representations of whales and sharks.

The annual Art in the Park exhibit, sponsored by the Chatham Chamber of Commerce and Merchants Association, opened last week, featuring 64 whales and 18 sharks expertly decorated by local artists. This year’s art features a host of scenes both familiar and unique, ranging from beach scenes, seascapes and a variety of wildlife to abstract designs and shapes. There’s even a whale wearing a sweater and a seal swimming in a shark’s belly (don’t worry, it's a frolicking seal, not the remnants of a meal).

Local businesses and organizations sponsor the whales and sharks and rely on local artists to create one-of-a-kind art from the cut-out shapes. All of the art is for sale in an online auction and will remain in the park through Aug. 14. A link to the bidding site can be found at chathaminfo.com; bidding starts at $250 for all of the pieces.
