HES Students Prepare Food Baskets For Veterans

by William F. Galvin

HARWICH – Students and staff at Harwich Elementary School came together once again this year to stuff Thanksgiving food baskets for local veterans.

Students in each of the grades are asked to provide food in different categories such as vegetables, crackers, stuffing, desserts and canned goods for the baskets. School staff also make donations for the baskets.

The fourth grade classes fill the baskets. Once the tasks are completed, the Cape Cod Cares for Our Troops organization comes to the school and picks up the baskets for distribution to local veterans.

Students last Wednesday filled approximately 40 baskets. Joy Jordan, community engagement coordinator for the school district, said items remaining after the baskets are filled are brought to The Family Pantry of Cape Cod.
