Two Found Dead, Roommate Faces Charges
WEST CHATHAM – Two people were found dead in a house off Main Street Monday, one of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound and another of an apparent fatal drug overdose, and a roommate has been charged with drug trafficking and possession of explosive materials.
State police assigned to the Cape and Islands District Attorney’s Office charged 43-year-old Andreas Miller with possession of an incendiary device and trafficking in fentanyl. Miller was not charged with the deaths of the two victims. As of press time, Miller was being held without bail, with prosecutors arguing that he represents a danger to the community. He was set to be arraigned in Orleans District Court Wednesday morning.
Just before 10:30 a.m. Monday, Chatham police received a call from an address in town and officers and paramedics responded to the house at 1624 Main St.
“Upon arrival a 55-year-old male and a 30-year-old female were both found deceased. Preliminary investigation suggests that the deceased male succumbed to a self-inflicted gunshot wound and the deceased female fatally overdosed,” reads a press statement issued by the district attorney’s office Tuesday afternoon. The Cape Cod Chronicle generally does not publish the identities of people who take their own lives or overdose victims.
“Upon further investigation by the Massachusetts State Police Detective Unit assigned to the Cape and Islands District Attorney’s Office and the Chatham Police Department it was discovered that Andreas Miller is the roommate that resides in the residence in which the two deceased individuals were found.”
Investigators received a search warrant from Orleans District Court and during the search allegedly located “materials used as precursor powders and materials consistent with making homemade explosives, approximately 75 grams of
pressed fentanyl pills, white powder of suspected fentanyl and approximately $50,000 cash,” the statement reads.
On Monday a large police presence was seen at the property, which is behind a vacant house at 1620 Main St.
Prosecutors said they will make no further comment on the case.
