Emma Marie (Happy) Snedeker

November 04, 2026

Emma Marie (Happy) Snedeker of Chatham passed away on October 10th after a courageous fight with cancer. She was two weeks shy of her 95th birthday.
Born on October 25, 1931 in Manhattan, NY, she spent her childhood years in Babylon, NY. She was the youngest daughter of Charles Valentine Snedeker and Marion Olsen Snedeker.  She attended Smith College, and after graduation worked for New York Life until she reached retirement.
She and her late sister Marianne Snedeker discovered Chatham many years ago, spending summers at the Hawthorne Inn. In 1993 they bought a home on Stage Neck Road, and became permanent residents of Chatham.   Happy, as her friends and family knew her, was active and volunteered in many groups in town, particularly St. Christopher’s Church, singing in the choir and as a member of the altar guild;  the Creative Arts Center, where she served as secretary for many years and became an accomplished potter; and as a volunteer at the Chatham Theater.   She had many friends in the area and enjoyed socializing until her physical infirmity made it difficult.
Throughout her life she lived up to the nickname bestowed upon her by her family. She was indomitable, independent, and loyal to friends and family.
She is pre-deceased by her late brother John C. Snedeker of Savannah, GA, and sister Marianne Snedeker of Chatham. She is survived by her nephews John C Snedeker,Jr (Laurie), Dwight Austin Snedeker,  Charles Valentine Snedeker, and grand-nephews Marshall Austin Snedeker, Andrew Kinloch Snedeker (Carli), Samuel James Snedeker, and a grand-niece Eve Odette Snedeker
The family would like to express our undying gratitude to Karen Warren and her staff at Quality Health Care Cape Cod for their devoted help and caring for Happy in her home for the last three years. They made all the difference in her quality of life.
A Celebration of Life service at St. Christopher’s Episcopal Church will be held on Thursday, November 12th, 2026 at 11:00.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Creative Arts Center, St. Christophers Church, or a charity of choice.
