Preliminary results from Brewster show Democrat Christopher Lambton with a strong lead over Republican Joe B. Glynn in the race for the First Barnstable District state representative seat.
Lambton won 4,080 votes to Glynn’s 1,558, according to results posted by the town late Tuesday. The district’s largest two towns, Yarmouth and Barnstable, had not reported results at the time this story was posted.
In the only other local contest on the ballot, Democrat Daniel Gessen won the Brewster vote for Barnstable County Commissioner over Republican Adam Hogue 3,919 to 1,994.
In regional and state races, Brewster voters backed a straight Democratic line, including Gov. Maura Healey, Senator Edward Markey and Congressman William Keating. State Senator Julian Cyr and Rep. Hadley Luddy ran unopposed.
Brewster also approved of establishing a Barnstable County Charter Commission, 3,378 to 1,944, and passed Question 1, expanding the Public Records Law; Question 2, related to collective bargaining; Question 4, same-day voter registration; and Question 6, establishment of a Nature For All fund. Voters opposed Question 3, a single all-party primary; Question 5, limiting state revenue; and Question 7, allowing single-family homes on lots 5,000 square feet or larger.
Brewster voters were against Question 8, repealing retail sale of adult-use marijuana, by a margin of 1,369 in favor and 4,737 opposed. Voters supported Question 9, retaining the 2024 firearms law, 4,133 to 1,973.
A total of 6,196 voters cast ballots, 67.7 percent of those registered, according to the town.
