John Berube

CHATHAM- John Berube was born to Joseph C. and Beatrice W. Berube on April 13, 1951 in Fitchburg, MA  and passed away on September 29 of this year.  He has lived in Chatham since the mid-1970s.
John attended St. Bernard Catholic Grammar School and graduated from Fitchburg High School in 1970.  After graduation, John worked in construction in Fort Lauderdale, FL for two years then relocated to Guantanamo Bay, Cuba for two more years. By the mid-1970s, Cape Cod beckoned, and John moved here, continuing his work in construction. Over the following decades, he helped build many homes on the Lower Cape.
John was also known as Bubba or Bubs to many here on the Cape.  And Bubba was a good friend.  He was funny and knew how to tell a good story. He loved to tell this one:  Over 30 years ago he was helping to build a friend’s house on a lot next to the friend’s mother’s house.  She was also a new grandmother and would walk her granddaughter in a stroller by the house project.  She’d yell out to the motley crew to stop what they were doing, and “wave to the baby!”
He adored his Cape Cod family.  One of his friends said that he always made her laugh and she was always happy to see him. I think many others would say that too.
John was predeceased by his parents, and his sisters Patty and Eileen.  He is survived by his sister Frances McCluskey of Fitchburg, and many close friends on the Cape.  He will be missed.
A celebration of his life is in the planning stages where there will plenty of opportunities to share your thoughts and stories of our friend.
