March 9, 1942-April 21, 2026
Celebration of life service for Helen Louise Nickerson (née Jamieson), 84, of Norfolk, will be held at the Chatham VFW on Sunday September 27, from 2:30 p.m. - 5:30 p.m.,  150 George Ryder Road, Chatham, MA 02633. Helen was born on March 9, 1942, in Hyannis, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully on April 21, 2026, in Norfolk, Nebraska.
Helen graduated from Chatham High School in Chatham, Massachusetts, in 1960 and furthered her education at the Chandler School for Women in Boston, where she developed her secretarial skills. Her training led to a position at an attorney’s office and later a fulfilling career at Cape Cod Hospital in registration, upon her return to Cape Cod from Boston. Helen was initiated into the Order of the Eastern Star of South Dennis, MA. in 1975, where she served as a secretary. Her compassionate nature guided her into a role as a Field Staff Supervisor and Home Health Aide for Kimberly Quality Care in Falmouth, Massachusetts. After relocating to Norfolk, Nebraska in 2007, she worked as a Patient Escort at Faith Regional Hospital until her retirement.
Helen found joy in life’s simple pleasures and creative pursuits. She had a remarkable talent for gardening, reviving struggling plants and bringing beauty to every space she touched. A lover of music and art, she enjoyed singing with the Chatham Community Choir and admired the works of Claude Monet. In her final days, she found comfort listening to Willie Nelson, Chris Stapleton, and Frank Sinatra. Helen was also an avid reader with an insatiable curiosity, making weekly visits to the Norfolk Public Library to explore new books.
Known for her distinctive laugh and sharp wit, Helen’s clever sayings—fondly called “Helen-isms” by her daughter—brought joy to those around her. She was a gifted storyteller whose humor left lasting impressions. Helen cherished animals, particularly her beloved dogs Mollie and Sadie, and deeply loved her family, staying connected through heartfelt letters and calls.
Helen is survived by her brother Donald Jamieson and his wife Roberta of Chatham, Massachusetts; her daughter Cheryl Nickerson of Norfolk, Nebraska; her son Glen Nickerson and partner Leah Artman of Chatham, Massachusetts; her grandson Jamieson Cummings of Elkhorn, Nebraska; as well as many loving nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was predeceased by her parents Thomas and Hazel Jamieson of Chatham, Massachusetts.
Helen’s memory will live on through the laughter she inspired and the love she shared with all who knew her. May those who mourn find solace in remembering the joy she brought into their lives.
