HARWICH – It takes a lot of effort to put together a pickleball tournament. Just ask Tom Bryant, tournament director of the Harwich Pickleball Association’s 13th annual Harwich Funfest, held last Saturday at Brooks Park.
Work on the tournament begins a day ahead, not to mention all the time it takes to organize the event in the weeks and months prior. But for Bryant, it’s worth it for one main reason: the camaraderie.
“This brings together such a good group of people that have been doing this for years,” he said.
Some 135 local players participated in the day-long tournament in men’s, women’s and mixed doubles matches.
“We had an incredible team of workers, volunteers, and all the players were very gracious,” said Bryant, spreading the credit around. “We did what we intended to do: provide some really good pickleball, have a lot of fun, meet new people, and raise some money for charity.”
And it’ll happen all over again next year.
