William F. Schmitt

Schmitt, William F. (Bill) of Harwich, MA died on July 27, age 99. Beloved husband of Nadine for nearly 75 years. Devoted father of Michael Schmitt of Harwich, and Lynn Larsen (husband, Hans) also of Harwich. He was the proud grandfather of Joanna Schmitt and Ana Larsen, great grandchildren Ty and Kaylyn, and loving uncle of several nieces and nephews. In addition, Bill is survived by his sister Claudia Major and predeceased by his sisters Alice “Lucky” Gillmore, Eva Schmitt and Millie Schmitt.
   Bill was born in Jersey City, NJ and served in the U.S. Army during the occupation of Japan at the end of WWII. He and Nadine married and lived in Oakland, NJ for many years while Bill worked at General Electric.  In 1965, he and Nadine moved their family to Cape Cod where Bill became involved in the Marine and Construction trades. Subsequently, Bill owned and operated a successful tool rental business in Harwich.
Bill particularly enjoyed playing tennis, swimming and boating on Nantucket Sound, helping Nadine with their extensive gardens, and time spent with his family around the dinner table.
