Select Board Double Standard
Editor:
After watching the July 27 Harwich Select Board meeting, I cannot help but comment on the hypocrisy demonstrated by two board members who recently ran and won their positions unopposed.
A single unopposed candidate has come forth to represent the Pleasant Bay Alliance, and these same two select board members voted in opposition to this candidate rationalizing their vote by stating there should be more than one candidate from which to choose. This is a double standard. Why is it acceptable for these two select board members to run for a position unopposed, but not others?

An amazing job done by Carol Hutchings! The shingle tree design on the Monomoy Community Services’ building is fabulous, what a great idea. Thank you, you are very talented.

Hydrangea Festival Brings Out Best
Editor:
On behalf of the Chatham Garden Club, I would like to extend deep appreciation to the Chatham community for a successful 2026 Hydrangea Festival. Your support made the day an enormous success. The festival could not have occurred without the generosity of the six homeowners who shared their spectacular gardens and properties with guests from near and far. Having generous neighbors who share their gardens is one of the many things that makes Chatham unique.
Thank you, also, to the neighbors of our featured properties, who shared space and time with us on a warm and sunny Friday in mid-July.
We’d like to offer a “shout out” and special thanks for the assistance we received from Chatham Deputy Police Chief Lieutenant Sarah Harris. Lieutenant Harris, the Chatham Police Department, the Brewster Police Department and the Chatham Department of Public Works all worked with us to ensure a safe, smooth 2026 Hydrangea Festival.
Funds raised from the Hydrangea Festival support our ongoing mission. The club maintains 10 town gardens and funds scholarships through Monomoy Dollars for Scholars. In addition, we provide support to local youth, enabling them to enjoy summer activities and camps. None of these programs would be possible without the community’s support for the Hydrangea Festival.
Finally, thank you to the dozens of volunteers from our club who spent months preparing for the Hydrangea Festival and who hosted nearly three thousand visits spread among the six beautiful gardens.

Support For Homeless Shelter
Editor:
Faith does not stop at the door of the House of Worship. It must be taken into the public square.
That includes giving shelter and support to the homeless. It can't be changed by the vote of any town board. Re: Barnstable ZBA Votes Down Proposed Homeless Shelter.
For Christians, our Savior Jesus Christ taught this when, according to Matthew's Gospel 25:40, he preached, "And the king will say to them in reply, 'Amen, I say to you, whatever you did for one of these least brothers of mine, you did for me.’” Jesus preached that every good work done for the needy is an act of worship of God, not constrained by church walls.
Thank you to Chatham taxpayers for supporting St. Joseph's House with a considerable grant.
Hopefully, we will continue to comfort the homeless not only in Hyannis but here in Chatham.

Endorses Lambton For State Rep
Editor:
In the Sept. 1 state Democratic primary race, there are two candidates: Chris Lambton of Dennis is the best choice for Brewster.
Our district (the First Barnstable) has essentially been without representation in the State House since Rep. Christopher Flanagan was indicted and dropped from sight. Despite numerous calls to step down, Flanagan refused to do so. We can correct this disadvantage by electing a proven, adept and trustworthy community leader, Chris Lambton.
Chris Lambton is a once-in-a-generation local leader. He has a long record of accomplishments as a member of the Dennis Select Board.
Let’s vote for excellent, proven leadership for our district, Chris Lambton.
