Keith A. Brunell

Keith Alwyn Brunell, 89, passed away peacefully on June 29, 2026, at The Highlands Assisted Living in Topsham, Maine.
Born on November 10, 1936, in East Orange, New Jersey, Keith was the son of Albert L. and Grace (Winifred) Brunell. He graduated from Nutley High School in Nutley, New Jersey, and earned a bachelor’s degree in economics from Union College.
   Keith proudly served in the United States Army from 1958 to 1960, attaining the rank of Private First Class (E-3). He was a member of the U.S. Infantry Division Honor Guard and received commendations for his service.
Keith spent his career as a mathematics teacher at Concord-Carlisle High School in Massachusetts, where he also coached the boys’ cross-country team from 1978 to 1996, helping lead the program through its state championship years.
An avid outdoorsman, Keith enjoyed traveling, kayaking, birding, studying plant life, painting, sculpture, photography, and running marathons, including the Boston Marathon. He volunteered with the Wellfleet Audubon Sanctuary, the Boulder County Nature Center, and the New England Aquarium, and received awards for his photography.
Keith was predeceased by his brother, Kurt Brunell, and his longtime partner, Diane Sanger. He is survived by his brothers, Roger Brunell of Gulfport, Mississippi, and Duane Brunell of East Boothbay, Maine; several nieces and nephews, including Jeff Brunell, Emily Pious, and Ryn Grant; and many extended family members and friends.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Cape Cod, Massachusetts, in September. Details will be announced at a later date.
