“Have long have you lived on the Cape?” I foolishly asked Noah Thacher, owner of Mr. Grab Bar. Why foolishly you ask? “My name is ‘Thacher!’” he said with a laugh. “I’m a 13th generation Cape Codder.” Indeed, there have been Thachers on the Cape for a long, long time. But Noah Thacher has only been Mr. Grab Bar for a couple years.

“My wife is in the home healthcare field and heard firsthand from patients rehabbing at home following a hospital stay the need for grab bars in their home. There was a guy who was installing bars for these folks for years who had retired. So I decided to take a new career path and learn how to install grab bars.”

Grab bars are safety devices installed in areas of your home to support and stabilize anyone with mobility issues. Their function is to prevent falls and injuries, particularly for the elderly or individuals with disabilities. A grab bar can assist someone who has difficulty standing up or sitting down. He said basically that grab bars are a simple yet effective way to help individuals maintain independence and improve their quality of life, and stay safe.

He soon learned how valuable this service is to a person coming home from the hospital or rehab facility. “I often get a call, ‘Dad is coming home tomorrow, and we need it now!’ and that’s not a problem, I can fit you in.”

The actual process is pretty simplistic. “It’s quick and easy! Give me a call and explain the setup you need (shower, next to the toilet, for the step into the house or garage, etc.) I can give you a price then and do it right way. I carry a massive assortment of bars in my van so I can come over and get you fixed up that day.” He can also order specialty items.

Grab bars are not only functional but can be stylish. Bars can add aesthetically to your home while making it safer at the same time. Thatcher has the added benefit of having his wife in the PT world so he can offer valuable insight into the location of the bars, too.

Thacher has worked out handling all the different kinds of material that showers can be fashioned from. “I worked up a functional way to attach a bar to all kinds of showers, even vinyl and the new fiberglass ones. I am committed to providing my customers with the best product and highest level of care and service possible.”
