Only Minor Injuries When Car Flips
NORTH CHATHAM – A driver was taken to Cape Cod Hospital for evaluation after a two-vehicle collision on Route 28 Tuesday morning.
Police received a 911 call shortly after 8 a.m. reporting the accident near the intersection of Old Mail Road. They arrived to find a vehicle resting on its roof in the southbound travel lane. The driver had escaped the wreck and was waiting inside a nearby business when rescuers arrived.
Officials say it appears the vehicle had collided with a trailer that was being pulled by a landscaping truck. No one in that vehicle was hurt.
“Because of the vehicle being on its roof, we initiated what’s called a trauma alert,” Chatham Fire Chief Justin Tavano said. Doing so warns hospital medical staff to have additional resources ready to quickly evaluate the patient when they arrive at the emergency room, he said. While the driver appeared to have only minor injuries, sometimes the adrenaline and excitement caused by an accident “can distract people from injuries they actually have, and don’t realize yet,” Tavano said.
The accident remains under investigation. Route 28 was closed to traffic for less than an hour while crews removed the wreck.
