Philip S. Ripa

Philip S. Ripa, formerly of Amherst MA, and a long-time resident of Chatham, died on December 21, 2024. He was the loving husband of Dorothy Meehan - Ripa since 2003 and was predeceased by his first wife Barbara Donoghue Ripa after 43 years of married life.
He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and was honorably discharged. He was employed by the Trustees of Amherst College in the Department of Physics for a special research project for a period of 10 years and subsequently worked for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts in the area of water pollution control receiving many accolades for outstanding service.
As a volunteer at Cape Cod Hospital, he received the volunteer of the month award for his energy working in the Blood Donor Room. For several years he worked closely with Chaplin’s Office and served as a Eucharist Minister and in the year 2000 was the recipient of the Marian Medal. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Counsel 7312 and of the American Legion Post 0253.
Survivors include his 4 sons Philip Jr. of New Sharon, ME, Mark of St. Albans VT, Christopher of Harwich, Matthew of Brewster: 3 daughters Cynthia of Fairfield CT, Regina of Chatham, and Nancy of Brooksville FL. He also leaves 2 stepsons Joseph Meehan of Newton PA, Patrick of Chatham, and a stepdaughter Elizabeth Wagner of Brewster NY.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at Holy Redeemer Church in Chatham on May 17 at 10:00. Interment will follow the Mass at Peoples Cemetery.
