Kathleen Ann Kane, 66, of Brewster, died Thursday, May 1st, 2025.
Kathleen was born to the late August and Joan (Guminski) Neher on April 7th, 1959, in Summit, NJ. She grew up in Union, NJ, and graduated from Seton Hall University in 1982 with a B.S. in Business Administration. She spent several years as a credit analyst before marrying Paul Kane in 1988. Paul and Kathy went on many adventures and lived in various cities throughout the country earlier during their marriage. In 1999, they settled in Whitinsville, MA, where they lived until retiring to Brewster in 2019.
Kathleen was known for her generosity, family, and love of food. She revered food. She was a phenomenal cook who was at her happiest in her kitchen. The running joke in her house was that she could never go out to eat because she would try to recreate whatever she ate, and do it better.
She shared her love of food with her friends, family, and community. Her life’s mission was to ensure that no one went hungry, from the neighbors across the street to the people served by her local food pantry. The family is certain she’ll return in her next life as a five-star chef, but after living with the variable weather of New England, she swore she was coming back as a weatherman.
When she wasn’t cooking, Kathleen loved reading and taking trips to the beach, particularly the Jersey Shore and Nauset Beach in Orleans. She was deeply committed to God and was a CCD teacher for several years while living in Whitinsville.
In addition to her husband, Paul, Kathleen is survived by her two sons, Matthew Gannon-Kane and his husband, Ryan Gannon-Kane of Marlborough, MA, and Michael Kane of Nashua, NH. She is also survived by her sister Susan (Neher) Wurst and her husband Scott Wurst of Middletown, NJ, along with several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sisters Nancy and Pamela Neher.
Visiting hours will be held on Thursday, May 8th, 2025 from 4:00 PM-7:00 PM at Hallett Funeral Home, 273 Station Avenue, South Yarmouth, MA 02664. A Funeral Mass in Kathleen’s honor will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday, May 9th, 2025 at Northside United Methodist Church, 701 Airline Road, Brewster, MA 02631. Burial will be immediately afterward at Oak Ridge Cemetery in Dennis, MA.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to The Family Pantry of Cape Cod.
