Craig Lohr
May 07, 2025
With great sadness in our hearts the Lohr family mourns the sudden death of lifelong Dennis resident Craig Lohr.
The son of Arthur and Jean Lohr, Craig grew up on the family-owned Swamp Maple Farm in West Dennis where he and his sister Terry developed their love of horses and both went on to compete and win top prizes at horse shows across New England. After a stint at the University of Miami, Craig graduated with honors from the University of Massachusetts.
Craig’s career path took him to Boston where he soon found his passion for steel buildings when he joined the Turner Construction team. Craig was most proud of the work he did on a few of the city’s majestic skyscrapers including downtown’s iconic Bank of Boston building. After the untimely death of his father, Craig left his Boston career behind and took over Lohr Construction Company where he continued his father’s legacy as a developer and builder. His projects include Mashpee Commons, Dennis Council on Aging, Lewis Gordon Senior Housing and in Provincetown, the U.S. Coast Guard Station and the Boatslip Resort. His love of steel buildings came full circle as he moved on to steel buildings and earned recognition as one of the top steel contractors in southern New England.
As an early member and president of the Cape Cod Home Builders Association, Craig, along with the MidCape Center’s Jan Nickerson and several local contractors, worked with legislators, and a number of businesses to support home ownership for all on Cape Cod. In addition, Craig was a member of both the Dennis Republican Club and the Harwich-Dennis Rotary. Matching his of love of building was the dedication Craig extended to his family. He is survived by his wife Nataliia, and his sons Justin, Nicholas, Chadchai and Waylon along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Any summer Sunday would find him with a gang of family and friends in his favorite getaway spot-Crowe’s Pasture. Craig’s love of the beach includes the many hours he spent riding a surfboard in search of that elusive perfect wave. His surfing safari took him to beaches around the world including Hawaii, Mexico and his recent discovery in Costa Rica.
Although Craig loved traveling, he also took great pride in his garden and fish pond and after work would join Nataliia in tending their vegetable and flower beds.
Craig never lost his “Woodstock” love of life, yes, he was there in the summer of 1969, and lived by the credo, work hard, love your life and don’t sweat the small stuff. Friends are invited to celebrate Craig’s life at The Sea View, 76 Chase Street in Dennisport on Saturday, April 19, 2025, from 1 – 3 pm.
A healthy Barnstable County requires great community news.
