Joseph J Cusimano, Jr.
May 01, 2025

Chatham - Joseph J Cusimano, Jr., age 85, peacefully passed away on April 24, 2025. Joe, who loved ones and long-time friends knew as “Bud,” was born on November 4, 1939, in Jamestown, NY. After graduating from Middlebury College, Joe spent a “ski-bum” year at Arapahoe Basin in Colorado, starting a family tradition his three sons and one of his granddaughters would follow. He later moved to New York City, where he met his soulmate, Patricia Pentes. Joe and Pat married on October 2, 1965, and together they embarked on a 59-year journey filled with family, friendship, travels, and adventure.
In 1958, Joe started as a salesman at Norton Company, where he enjoyed a 33-year career as he rose through the ranks to the position of President of Norton’s Superabrasive Division. Norton took he and his family from Worcester, MA, to Des Plaines, IL; then to Los Gatos, CA; Northborough, MA; Glastonbury, CT; back to Worcester, MA; followed by Saint-Germain-en-Laye and Paris, France; then to Akron, OH; and finally back again to Worcester. Joe left Norton/Saint Gobain in 1991, which freed up time for him to become actively involved with The Salvation Army, The United Way, and the Boy Scouts of America for many years.
After taking time to travel the world with Pat, Joe purchased Honematic Machine Corporation in Boylston, MA in 1992, which Joe led along with his son Greg until they sold the company to PCX Aerosystems in 2022.
Joe loved to sail, ski, fish, and golf; anything to stay active–the day before he entered the memory care facility, he played a full 18 holes of golf with his sons. But most of all, Joe loved to vacation with Pat, as well as his immediate and extended family, spending many summers on the coast of Maine and later in Chatham, MA. Christmas seasons were celebrated first in Jamestown, NY and Steubenville, OH, and later at ski resorts all over the western U.S. and Europe. While his memories began to fade over the last several years, Joe and Pat still traveled near and far to be with family, whether in Park City, UT, St. Petersburg, FL, the Dolomites in the Italian Alps, or points in between.
Joe is survived by his wife Pat, his three sons and daughters-in-law, Jay and Jennifer Cusimano of Bay Village, OH, Andy and Carey Cusimano of Park City, UT, and Greg and Tehan Cusimano of Boylston, MA, their seven amazing grandchildren, Jessica (and Lynsey), Amanda, Kyle, Emma, Natalie, Charlie, and Gabby, and many nieces, nephews, and other extended family. Joe was preceded in death by his parents Joe and Louise, as well as his sister, Jacqueline, and brother, John.
Calling hours are from 2:00pm to 4:00pm on Sunday, May 4 at Chapman Funerals & Cremations, 678 Main St., Harwich, MA. Funeral Mass will take place at 10:00am, on Monday, May 5 at the Holy Redeemers Church in Chatham, MA.
