HARWICH PORT – Lounging on the patio overlooking Pleasant Bay, vacationers at the Wequassett Resort and Golf Club would be forgiven for not thinking about the Lower Cape’s social service problems. But nonetheless, they’re doing their part.
Wequassett allows its visitors to pay an optional 1 percent guest donation during their visit to support the resort’s Community Impact Fund. This year, the fund enabled Wequassett to make a $30,000 donation to Outer Cape Health Services (OCHS). The donation will help OCHS continue providing high-quality, accessible healthcare to more than 20,000 residents and visitors annually at its locations in Harwich Port, Provincetown and Wellfleet.
OCHS President and CEO Dr. Damian Archer said the gift underscores the resort’s commitment to enhancing the health and well-being of the Lower Cape community.
“At Outer Cape Health Services, we are dedicated to providing accessible, high-quality care to all residents and visitors across the Outer Cape,” Archer said. “Partnerships like this are vital as we continue to expand our services and address the unique healthcare needs of our region.”
As a federally qualified community health center, OCHS offers a full range of primary care and supportive services, including behavioral health, substance use disorder treatment, case management and wellness programs. Its mission is rooted in removing barriers to care and providing a compassionate medical home for all who live in or visit the Lower and Outer Cape.
Wequassett Sales and Marketing Director Kara Lachance said the company is proud to support OCHS and its efforts to expand healthcare access.
“At Wequassett, we believe in giving back to the region that gives so much to us. Our Community Impact Fund was created to empower local organizations making a real difference, and OCHS is a perfect example of that mission in action,” she said.
Established in 2023, the fund is supported by guest donations and provides financial support to local nonprofits chosen by the resort’s staff. In the past, the fund has contributed to the Center for Coastal Studies, the Family Pantry of Cape Cod and the Harwich Children’s Fund. It focuses on advancing education, environmental conservation and health equity across the region.
