Minding Your Business- Viera on Main

“The dishes are well thought out, well composed and delicious,” says Mary Margaret Gallup, the general manager at Viera on Main in Chatham, and that is definitely the vibe you get when you walk in the door.
From their locally curated menu and meticulous coastal inspired dining room and bar area, Viera on Main is refreshing and elevated all around. Gallup credits the coastal inspiration to Viera’s owners, Chef Ben Porter and his wife Angie, who grew up on the Cape and pride themselves on their local connections when sourcing seafood and ingredients.
The inside of the restaurant is rich with ocean blues and white shiplap, giving it a real elevated Cape feel. Be on the lookout for the amazing mural on the ceiling of the raw bar area which is a nod to “The Finest Hours” (fun fact – Viera’s happy hour is aptly called “The Finest Hour” too!).
With deep ties to the local Chatham community, Gallup notes that Viera on Main “employs about 50 to 60 people in the community with very high retention rates over the years.” She says even the local teens Viera employs get a learning experience they will take with them for years to come. “We like giving people opportunities while they work here,” she says.
Viera is known for sourcing fish locally and uses an array of Chatham oysters, littlenecks and mussels on their menu. Customer favorites include their award-winning clam chowder and the beloved crabcakes. Another celebrated menu item which sets Viera apart is their housemade pastas like fettuccine and bucatini. Gallup is thrilled about their weekend brunch. She credits all of the local Chatham hotel and inn concierges for inspiring the restaurant to start up a brunch offering. Brunch runs on Saturdays and Sundays and features delicious items like Portuguese or crabcake Benedict, strawberry lemon French toast on brioche bread and a hoisin grilled swordfish sandwich.
