Harwich Health And Environmental Fair Saturday
HARWICH – The second annual Health and Environmental Fair will take place on Saturday at the 204 Cultural Arts Municipal Building.
The fair will feature lectures from health and environmental experts, health screenings, the opportunity to talk with health care and environmental experts, vendors, and artists. There will be live music, food and events for kids, including a visit from the Easter Bunny. The fair will run from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
“The health department has teamed up with the conservation department and Cultural Affairs Director Kara Mewhinney to bring this free, family-friendly event which offers a full day of health, wellness, and environmental education,” said Health Department Director Carrie Schoener
Among scheduled events are a free yoga class with Samantha Brintnall (bring your own mat, water bottle and towel). It will be a slow paced class that focuses on stretching flexibility, standing postures for stability and a longer cool-down toward the end. The event is great for all levels of experience. The class will start an hour before the fair, running from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m.
At noon there will be a substance use presentation by Bri Smith from Outer Cape Health Services, followed by a tick-borne disease presentation by Lea Hamner, contract epidemiologist with Barnstable County. There will also be a Making Harwich a Climate Leader presentation by the Harwich Climate Action Network.
The Easter Bunny will be hopping around and greeting the kids. There will be crafts, swag bags and lawn games. Three food trucks will be present. Cultural center studios will be showcasing the unique works of local artists.
There will also be live music. Shannon Davis, an award-winning singer-songwriter born and raised on the Cape, will be on stage. Her debut album, “Tell Me A Story,” released in 2023, was produced by Grammy-nominated producer Jon Evans. Her music is described as folksy and introspective, capturing the distinct Cape sound.
There will be approximately 50 vendors and exhibitors available to provide health advice, nutritional education, family support guidance, medical services and environmental information.
A healthy Barnstable County requires great community news.
