Athlete Of The Week: Hannah Morgan

HARWICH – After cheering for more than a decade, Hannah Morgan is finally living out her dream.
The Harwich resident was the lone senior for the Monomoy Regional High School winter cheer team, earning Most Valuable Player honors after helping the program capture its first Cape and Islands championship and qualify for its second state championship.
“It’s awesome, especially being a senior,” said Morgan. “That was honestly my dream ending — to end my senior year with a bang, and we did. I’m really happy about how the season came out.”
Morgan began cheering when she was 6 years old. As a young girl, she competed alongside her younger sister Grace, a junior, for the Marquee All Stars under the leadership of Monomoy’s longtime coach Robbin Kelley.
“I’ve known (Hannah) since she was little, and she’s my only senior graduating so I’m going to miss her a lot,” said Kelley. “She’s an amazing jumper and tumbler — she’s got skills.”
Although Morgan has aspirations of continuing her cheerleading career in college, she’ll leave Monomoy knowing that she helped the squad blossom into one of the Cape and Islands’ best.
It was especially gratifying for her to have the opportunity to share her high school experience alongside her younger sister after the tandem fell in love with the sport years ago.
“It’s awesome,” said the elder Morgan. “She’s also been cheering since she was pretty young — she was 5 when she started and I was 6 — and Robbin has been our coach since we started.”
Kelley said Hannah will long be remembered as one of the best Monomoy’s ever had.
“I’ve coached for over 20 years, and she’s probably the best jumper I’ve ever had,” she said.
A healthy Barnstable County requires great community news.
