Monomoy, Nauset Celebrate Winter Athletes At Awards Nights
A banner year for the Lower Cape’s winter athletes culminated with some well-deserved recognition.
The Monomoy and Nauset high school athletic departments recently celebrated winter athletes at each school’s respective awards nights. The athletes were recognized for their Cape and Islands League accomplishments and honored for their individual and team achievements.
Monomoy celebrated its boys basketball and boys hockey programs after both captured Cape and Islands League titles, as well as its cheer program, which competed at states for the second time in program history.
Jackson Rocco was recognized for being the Cape and Islands’ Maritime Division boys basketball Most Valuable Player, while Dominic Silvester received boys hockey MVP honors for the Lighthouse Division.
Rocco and teammates Finn Hyora, Jackson Morneau and Braden Burke were tabbed boys basketball league All Stars, with Jojo Ready, Kylie Mawn and Fiona Moore representing Monomoy girls basketball as All Stars.
Silvester, Casey Huse, Luke Raftery, Max Cronen, Owen Cloney and Nick Garneau were boys hockey league All Stars, while Gaby Bassett received All Star recognition after starring for the Nauset-Monomoy girls hockey squad.
Ready, Hyora, Morgan Willis and Cam McCutcheon were celebrated for earning Monomoy’s Scholar Athlete of the Month awards during the winter season.
Nauset honored its boys hockey team, which cruised to the program’s first state title after claiming the Cape and Islands League Atlantic Division title en route to a 4-1 victory over Medfield in the state final. Nauset’s wrestling team was also recognized as league champions after amassing a 2-0 record against Cape and Islands opponents.
Logan Poulin was crowned Cape and Islands boys hockey MVP, highlighting a deep lineup of boys hockey All Stars that included Colin Ward, Logan Miller, Jake Eldredge and Zach Coelho. Joseph Berardi was a boys basketball league All Star, and Owen O’Reilly was named the league’s wrestling MVP, while teammates Jack Peno and Chaz Thomas earned league All Star honors.
Isaiah Robinson and Violet Roche were crowned the Cape and Islands boys and girls track and field MVPs, respectively, and Reed Dill, Amina Iliusinova, Griffin LaBranche, Madeline Mahoney, Adrianna Morgan, Rihanna Sutherland and Anika Valli were also awarded track and field All Star recognition.
Isabel Colella, Loring Eldred, Laura Kaser, Erin McFarland, Alera Michaud and Thomas Olean were recognized for earning boys and girls swimming and diving All Star honors.
